June 2014 in Berlin : The ArtFabric in action

We stayed one month in Berlin and met a group of immigrants occupying an abandonned space in the centre of Berlin, by the Spree river...we went there a dozen of times, gave them photos and had artists from France (NiceArt and Cisinski) and Germany (Ebenholz) creating artworks based on the pictures we took.

Collab The ArtFabric and JR InsideOut project : the broken dreams of Haïtians in Sao Paulo

The bases of The ArtFabric and Inside/out projects are similar : using the power of Art to raise the visibility of communities struggling to survive. Art not only promotes change and raises awareness, but in many cases generates bubbles of joy.

We chose the Ha¨tian community in Sao Paulo who had their dreams of an Eldorado in Brazil broken bt the harsh reality of the magapole.

Eleven artists from Brazil -Cynthia Castejon, Celso Gitahy, Davaca-, Argentina -Cabaio-, UK -Koe1- , Germany -Ebenholz- , Canada -Lily Luciole-, France -NiceArt, NoName Stencil, Arkane and Happy Fingers created their own interpretation of each portrait photographed.

TheArtFabric website is on line...

The ArtFabric develops artistic projects based on collaborative practices with a public engagement by pasting original artworks or photographies on the walls of urban communities at risk : homeless, displaced and marginalised communities.

 

Our objective goes beyond bringing art to people who generally do not have access to art. We collect their stories, illustrate their dreams, listen to them. Those interactions create links between the artists, the photographers and those communities in order to produce new artworks which are then pasted.

 

We paste (ie glue) original artworks created on paper by artists from all over the world -street art, photos, collages- on the walls of these communities.

 

The ArtFabric not only creates immediate pleasure, bubbles of joy, but promotes a continuous engagement. We wish to help restore a link, an indentity, a space for dreams and urban poetry.

Paraisopolis : ephemeral art in ephemeral environment

When street art can bring smiles to the people who are deprived of any access to art because of such a cultural gap and because their first concerns are about keeping a job, keeping their home...Paraisopolis is the largest "favela" (politically correct name is "community") of Sao Paulo with over 100,000 inhabitants.

The initial reaction when the pasted started was curiosity...then enthusiasm !

Knowing there was some snow in Paris, Cranio contacted me and asked if I could paste one of his blue indians with snow around...so I choosed Gainsbourg's house, rue de Verneuil as the perfect spot for Cranio's work.
